Press ReleaseBrass Ensemble help local school raise £1000 for African Women's Charity.On Sunday 4th May 2003 Surrey Brass joined Newlands House School’s pupils in Twickenham for a concert of brass music which raised over £1,000 for the Kenyan ‘Wholistic Caring’ Organisation.. Concert guests were treated to an excellent Dinner.money. All profits went directly to the Charity. Over 20 brass pupils at the school performed, including several who were smaller than their instruments! Their performance included numbers from the school Big Band. Wholisitic Caring is based in Ruiru, Kenya and provides a safe place for women in crisis to find shelter, food and loving support. Women come to Wholisitic Caring with a variety of issues including unplanned pregnancy, rape, abuse, prostitution and drug abuse. All in need are welcome. Surrey Brass is an ensemble of the finest brass players Surrey has to offer. It aims to be ‘Innovative and entertaining’ and regularly performs in Surrey, London and the South East. At the Kenya concert they played a wide range of music ranging from Jazz standards to Tudor music from England, and the audience demanded an encore of the rip-roaring “Sabre Dance” at the end. Surrey Brass next performs in Richmond on July 5th 2003 at St. Matthias Church for ‘East meets West’, a concert featuring music by Russian and American composers. On the programme is a wide range of music that will appeal to all tastes from classics to jazz, including “Fanfare for the Common Man”, “An American in Paris”, and “From Russia with Love”.
