Brass Ensemble unite East and West in a concert packed with musical entertainment for everyone

Ensemble Surrey Brass will be bringing some of the best Russian and American composers of the 20th Century to Richmond this Summer when they perform 'East meets West' at St.Matthias Church, Richmond Hill on July 5th.

The concert starts at 7.30pm, tickets cost £8, and £6 for concessions and can be booked on-line at http://www.surreybrass.co.uk. A limited number will be available on the door.

The concert will have something for everyone. Well known classics; Gershwin's 'An American in Paris' and Copland's 'Fanfare for the Common Man', will feature alongside more light hearted numbers such as the theme from James Bond film 'From Russia with Love' and the famous love theme from "Spartacus", well known ever since it was used as the theme tune for the TV series "The Onedin Line" The rip-roaring "Sabre Dance" by Khatachurian and Leos Janacek's "Sinfonietta" will then give the Surrey Brass players a chance to show off their technical skills!

Surrey Brass last performed in Richmond in May when they took part in a charity concert at Newlands House School. The concert raised over £1000 for the Kenyan organisation 'Wholistic Caring'.

Surrey Brass performs under the baton of Musical Director Robin Smith. Robin was brought up in Hampton Hill and has a long association with Richmond, having played in the Richmond Youth Orchestra and Richmond Youth Band as a youngster. Now a successful professional musician Robin has recorded for groups such as 'The Divine Comedy' , has many regular teaching commitments and specialises in coaching brass ensembles.

William Spencer, Chairman and principal trumpet of Surrey Brass is also well known in the area, having taught hundreds of children at Newlands House School in Twickenham.

Surrey Brass 'the innovative and entertaining ensemble' features the best players Surrey has to offer and since its formation in 2001 the group has gained a reputation for performing brass ensemble music to the highest standards - playing concerts in Surrey, London and across the South East.
