Surrey
Brass Massive is part of a growing initiative organised by
Roger Argente to
motivate and educate young brass musicians by exposing them to top quality
teaching and performance. Following on from a successful first year in
Blackheath in 2005, the scope has expanded with Brass Massive events happening
in Surrey, Hertfordshire and other places. A key element of this concept is to
bring the event to the specialist music schools in the country, something which
is being realised for the first time this year.
One of the aims of Brass Massive is to challenge the
“endangered species” status of certain brass instruments, declared in 2005
due to the very small number of new children taking them up, by staging events
which involve players at all levels to work together to achieve excellence.
Surrey
Brass, the innovative and entertaining brass ensemble, whose President is
Roger Argente, participated in the first event
and were determined to bring it to Surrey to promote brass playing in the
county. Several Surrey Brass members are tutors with Surrey County Arts and this
has been a key link to bring the programme together. Two groups of young players
are scheduled to attend, "Brass Routes" and "Bold as Brass".
It
seems fitting that the first Surrey Brass Massive should be at the wonderful brand new concert hall at the Yehudi
Menuhin School. The school does not currently cater for brass players so the
event will bring a new perspective to the music students there.
This
programme has been generously sponsored by RC Sherriff Trust
