Anthony Wakefield

Anthony Wakefield was born in Lancashire in 1942. Taking up the clarinet and piano, his studies took him to gain performing and teaching diplomas in clarinet at the Royal, and London Colleges of Music. Further studies followed in composition and orchestration with Gordon Reynolds of the Chapel Royal, Hampton Court; and Leon Young of Tunbridge Parish Church and Tin Pan Alley! 

His compositions have brought him awards in 1996 and 1997 from the Clarinet and Saxophone Society of Great Britain, and his arrangements, from the BBC and Musician`s Union competitions for the BBC Concert Orchestra. 


Compositions

Anthony Wakefield composed the music for the "Battle of the Falklands" video, produced in 1982 by Granada/ITN. "Hauntings" was chosen as one of three test pieces in a world-wide internet clarinet performance competition during the summer of 2001.

As an arranger and orchestrator, his work has taken him to the recording studio and concert hall with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Concert and Radio Orchestras. He has assisted John Williams in preparing arrangements for the Filmharmonic series of concerts with the London Symphony Orchestra. He is also in demand as arranger and composer for the Brass Band world, his works having been recorded by the Brighouse and Rastrick Band, the Williams Fairey Band, and the BTM Band, South Wales.

He uses Sibelius music notation software and his compositions are available on the Internet.
