Richard Norris Biography

Born Carshalton, Surrey, 1949. Later moved to West Sussex and played trombone with the County Youth Orchestra. Embarked on long business career which stifled musical activity. Recently retired from business to devote more time to music. Currently a postgraduate student of composition at Manchester University.

Currently working on a string quartet which is scheduled for performance in June.


Compositions

Works include 

  • Two orchestral pieces based on war poetry ("Shiloh - a requiem" and "All Day It Has Rained"), 
  • A Symphonic Study for string orchestra, "Two Etudes For String Quartet" (performed in a composers workshop by The Lindsays), 
  • A piece for Saxophone Quartet ("Do not go gentle.....") which was performed in a workshop by the Apollo Saxophone Quartet) and 
  • "Jubilee Echoes", for soprano, tenor, contralto, chorus and orchestra, which will be performed on June 29.
