William
Whymper, Actor
Since training at the Guildford School of acting, Bill
has spent nearly 34 years as a jobbing actor, working in theatres throughout the
country and appearing on television from time to time. Highlights have been
three long seasons with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford, Newcastle
and London, and his most prestigious role on TV was that of Bruce Tomlin in
"The Collectors" - a 10-part series for the BBC.
In recent years he has done a considerable amount of
role-play (as a "patient") with doctors and medical students; and also
some directing, particularly for the Farnham Shakespeare Company and the
Guildford School of Acting.
For the last two summers his has been acting in a
marquee (and once in St. Andrews Church) for the New Farnham Repertory Company:
a gallant little band of players dedicated to keeping professional theatre alive
in the town.
He has played 38 Shakespearian Characters in 16 of the
Bard's plays and is delighted to be encountering "Henry V" again this
evening.
