The Charity
 |
-
The St
Vincent de Paul Society (or as it is often known - the SVP) is
an International Christian Organisation.
-
Catholic in origin and character it
is dedicated to helping anyone in need.
-
The concept of need is broadly
based, so visiting the sick, the lonely, the addicted and those
suffering from disabilities form a large proportion of the Society's
work.
When this concert was planned, the
recent earthquake had not happened - highlighting the need for even
more support to the region. Please be generous with your donations.

THE GUESTS
This
concert will be attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Elmbridge.
Jonathan Murrill is a local student and Tsunami survivor and
will also be attending the concert.
THE PROGRAMME
Will remain under intensive development until shortly before the concert -
but we assure our audience that it will be light, fun, and not at all what
you might expect!
Or perhaps not what we'd expect either!
THE PLAYERS
Brass
Routes
Brass Routes is a beginner brass ensemble, based in Woking, run through
Surrey County Arts. The standard ranges from absolute beginner to approximately
Grade 2/3. The sole requirement for entry is to know which end to blow in!! The
group is run by Michael Chapple and Clare Penkey, who
also teach many of the students involved.
They are currently assisted by a young trumpeter, Sam Watts, who is
helping with Brass Routes as part of his Duke
of Edinburgh award scheme. As well as playing alongside the younger players,
Sam has also written a couple of pieces for the group. The Pyrford Tsunami
Brass concert will feature the world premiere of a fanfare he wrote specifically
for Brass Routes. Their programme will include Sam's Brass Routes Fanfare,
All Through the Night and an arrangement of the Drunken Sailor.
T
Richter Brass
Formed specially for this concert, Richter Brass
aim to set the ground shaking with their wonderful music and extra loud bass
tuba section.
Chapple's Trumpets
Formed
in 2000 to participate in the Farnham United Reformed Church’s lunchtime
concert series, this group has gone on to give a number of concerts raising
money for a variety of charities. It was created by Michael Chapple to give some
of his senior students the chance to participate in a group where they would all
get the chance to take solos and play some of the not-so-common instruments that
trumpeters are expected to know about.
The players are taken from the top groups in Surrey County Arts, often with
additional players from Surrey University, local professionals, teachers and
some of London’s music colleges.
When they get together they play a variety of music, from arrangements to new
works written especially for trumpet ensemble. They have given a number of UK
premieres including, most recently, Eric Ewazen’s Sonoran Desert Harmonies.
