Surrey Brass celebrates St. George's Day with music by English composers throughout the ages,
in many cases arranged specially for the
ensemble.
To illustrate the music, Guest Narrator William
Whymper presents prose and poetry, including the most famous stirring
speeches from Shakespeare's "Henry V", which was written
in about 1599, and might have been the first play performed at the Globe
Theatre.
Guest
Conductor Denis Wick
is the President of the International Trombone Association and was the
longest serving principal trombonist of the London Symphony Orchestra.
Denis has a world wide reputation for his Mouthpieces
and Mutes, and also his sparkling arrangements of music for Wind
and Brass.
Programme to
include:
Sir William Walton - music from the film " Henry
V"
with narration from the Shakespeare play
John Hughes - Golden Jubilee Fanfare
William
Byrd - Earl of Oxford's March
John Ireland - Comedy Overture
Chris
Hazell - The "Cats" Suite
with poems by Stevie Smith
Although we anticipate to play the listed music,
the musical programme may be subject to change. Expect unprogrammed
additions for your enjoyment!
