About Surrey Brass
Surrey Brass was founded in August 2001 by John Goodwin exactly 50 years after the foundation of the ensemble it is modelled on, the world famous Philip Jones Brass Ensemble. We aim to follow the fine tradition of ensemble brass performance that PJBE originated, to widen the audience for this music, and provide enjoyment for everyone by means of musically varied and fun performance to a high standard. Surrey Brass aims to play a wide repertoire which incorporate fresh influences from diverse musical sources including traditional music, Jazz, and World Music. Surrey Brass aims to promote the Arts in all its forms and are most interested in forming relationships with local Arts organisations, and composers and arrangers in the county of Surrey. Our talented musicians are drawn from the best players in the county of Surrey, whether student, amateur, professional or in between. We rehearse weekly during term time, and less frequently during the summer. Surrey Brass is self-supporting and needs financial support in order to thrive. We seek relationships and sponsorship from Friends, local and national arts organisations and business organisations in Surrey. If you are interested in sponsoring Surrey Brass, or know of someone who might, please let us know.
