Quite a few artistic, musical and artistic factors led to the story behind
the concept behind the idea behind the design, as explained by our creative
graphic designer Michael Angelo:
-
Surrey Brass needed a
graphic, logo, to make it more recognisable - it's our brand image!
-
We wanted something simple
(so we could draw it!).
-
We wanted something that
would work in black and white, and colour too so we could use it on concert
programmes, letterheads, etc.
We wanted something we could
embroider on T-shirts, put on CD's and merchandise, if we ever get round to
doing that!
-
The first part of the design
is brought to you courtesy of the letter "S".
-
The next part is brought to
you courtesy of the letter "B"
(well, if it sounds like Sesame Street we did say it had to be simple!).
-
The Green symbolises the
leafy county of Surrey.
-
The Gold symbolises the
colour of brass (and maybe a bit of hot playing too!)
-
The Purple makes the other
two colours stand out sharply, emphasising the two halves of the design.
(Colours become black and white in the simplified
monochrome design).
-
The final part, adapted from
the "Yin Yang" idea, symbolises the harmony between brass music
and the county of Surrey. Hopefully!
-
The entire design, which is
not quite symmetric, is based on two sets of concentric circles, one above the
other. To be honest we haven't a clue what this symbolises, but we'll make
something plausible up later.
-
Spotted the swan yet? Well,
there are a lot of rivers in Surrey.....
