The first ever Wisley Music Festival will take place at the RHS gardens from
13-15 June.
The festival opens on Thursday 13 June with the ‘Wisley Summer Proms’ in
which the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performs traditional Proms classics. The
programme features world-renowned cellist Julian Lloyd Webber, whose repertoire
for the evening will include Elgar’s sublime Cello Concerto.
Friday 14 June opens with an appearance by the Cotton Club Orchestra who will
take the mood up-tempo with music of Harlem and New York in the 20’s and 30’s,
recreating the sounds of Duke Ellington, Fats Waller and Cab Calloway. In
contrast, rhythm and blues supreme Alan Price continues the journey through the
decades, spanning the Rock and Roll and Blues landscape from the late 50’s to
the present day.
On Saturday 15 June the no.1 Beatles tribute band, the Bootleg Beatles
provide a jam-packed finale to the festival with over two hours of non-stop
hits.
Each concert finishes with a stunning firework display. Patrons will be able
to savour the Garden in its summertime splendour, enjoying a rare opportunity to
picnic in the grounds whilst soaking up the music.
