About this concert

The Parish of Bisley and West End is having a full day of celebrations for the patronal festival of St John the Baptist (Bisley church’s saint) on Friday 23rd June 2023. 

Activities during the day include talks and exhibitions, with a concert in the evening.

At 2pm, local historian Tim Price will give a talk about the history of Bisley Church. This will be followed by tea and cakes and children's activities.

At 7pm, local historian, Tim Price will repeat his a talk about the history of Bisley Church, forming the first part of the evening events.

The second half of the evening will feature a range of musical delights provided by our choir, a local violinist and the .

Interval refreshments will include a licensed bar and soft drinks.

Musical Programme

The Quintet programme contains a wide range of music that showcases the versatility of the brass quintet, featuring many different musical eras and styles. It spans a four century timescale from the Renaissance to the present day, with plenty of lighter entertaining music to round off the evening. A notable feature is a gorgeous piece by local composer Ralph Vaughan Williams, who lived and worked in Dorking. In between the music, members of the quintet will give short talks about the music, the composers, and brass instruments and playing.
