PRESENTED BY CAROLINE JOHN

Mark the Christmas Season in the Gothic Cathedral splendour of the Landmark Arts Centre in a family celebration programme of traditional music. Surrey Brass, the Chapel Choir from Reeds School and a new Children's Choir from St. Anne's Catholic Primary School, Chertsey join together for a special festive event that everyone can join in.

The concert will be presented by local celebrity actress Caroline John, who will also give a number of seasonal readings between the musical items.

Carols by Candlelight will feature your favourite Christmas Music plus some pleasant new surprises. Everyone is encouraged to join in the singing of Carols.

Reed's Chapel Choir consists of up to 30 voices of all ages, and it sings regularly in the School chapel, as well as giving many concerts locally and in such venues as Guildford, Southwark and Arundel Cathedrals, and Hampton Court Palace. Each year it joins forces with the Reed's Choral Society, which includes parents, friends and staff, to perform a major choral work. These have included Vivaldi's Gloria, Purcell's Te Deum and Jubilate, Haydn's Requiem, and Carmina Burana at the Fairfield Hall Croydon with the Young Musicians' Symphony Orchestra.

St Anne's is a Beacon school in Chertsey with a high profile in the community. Music is considered a priority in the school as it allows children to express themselves in a way which no other medium allows. Children have access to a wide range of music tuition at the school including woodwind, brass and strings as well as piano and keyboard. Mrs Spencer who recently joined the school as music teacher has taken over the responsibility for the choir which at present comprises of more than 30 children. Mrs Spencer has also conducted research into how music affects the relationships between adults and children from baby-hood upwards and has sought ways of bringing adults and children together to make music.

Surrey Brass have rapidly developed a keen audience following their Golden Jubilee Fanfare contest, airplay on BBC Southern Counties Radio, and appearances at RHC Wisley backing Alan Price and The Bootleg Beatles. Not to be missed!

Reviews

To all concerned with the evening.

I came to the 'Carols By Candlelight' concert on the 21st December 2002 with my wife and two friends and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. We came primarily to see our daughters our daughter sing in the St Anne's school choir and had a very pleasant surprise with the sheer professionalism of the whole event. My father is a professional trombone player and as a child I played the trumpet so I have grown up listening to and indeed love the sound of brass and I profess to know a bum note when I hear one! I can tell you that I was very impressed at the extremely high standard of playing by all those in the band. The splendour of the band was however overshadowed momentarily as all our hearts melted as little Grace's voice wavered as she sang Silent Night. My thanks also to Caroline John for her excellent and varied choice of readings. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of the children, parents and indeed St Anne's school to thank Surrey Brass for inviting the children to take part.

A truly wonderful experience for all concerned.

We look forward to seeing and hearing you play again.

With thanks

Quentin Hardie
